April came in on a perfect Easter Sunday, with a beautiful warm day for whatever your plans. Whether attending the sunrise service, enjoying an Easter egg hunt, taking a drive, or coming to a lovely brunch at the Gold Vine, the day was absolutely perfect for anything!
We are very much looking forward to our “12 @ 6” Dinner this month on Wednesday, April 18th, with Les & Sharon of Element 79. These folks are a bit new to the area, and have a lovely tasting room on Fair Play Rd., with really impressive wines. The dinner is a 4-Course dinner, with Greg pairing his food with their wines. The table is limited to 12 seats, so reservations are necessary. Cost is $55.00 per person, inclusive of food, wine, tax and gratuity.
Passport Weekends 2018 will be on April 21st & 22nd and April 28th & 29th. This is the big annual wine festival where guests will be celebrating with lots of great wine, food and music as they frolic in the foothills. Just be responsible in your parting, and be careful on the roads, as there will be plenty of people who may not know their way around here.
What’s going on with Gold Vine Grill? Are we sold? Are we for sale? Who knows? WE know, and will tell you what is going on. We listed the restaurant for sale, kind of on the “down low” several years ago, when I became ill. We have always wanted to sell to someone who shared our vision of being the “Cheers” of Fair Play, of keeping our staff, who are like family to us, and who would continue to grow the business in a way that would benefit the community. Since I relapsed last year, we have decided that I really do need to slow down. I just turned 65 last December, and although I am thankfully in another full remission, we have decided to list it again locally. We have had some very interested potential buyers, and we will be mindful of the well-being of our staff and community when the decision is made. You can ask us for an update, and we’ll be happy to bring you up to date. This is a very bittersweet venture, as the Gold Vine Grill is our baby, and has been our whole lives for 15 years now. So, come to see us, enjoy Greg’s food, and share some memories. We do love you all.
Wine Watch: This month we want to feature Saluti Cellars “18 Hands” Bordeaux Blend. The label on the bottle shows a white background w/ a shadow of a Clydesdale horse. Randy & Tina Rossi, owners of Saluti Cellars are also owners of a horse named Norman, a Clydesdale who measures 18 hands. You can probably go down to the barn or meadow to meet Norman on a trip to Saluti to taste some of their delightful wines. Actually, there is a lot to see at their beautiful estate located on 250 acres at 7505 Grizzly Flat Rd. They have an impressive property boasting a huge pond w/ fountain, bed & breakfast cabins that are top-notch, a wine cave, a pool and a very cool event area where there once was just a barn. Just be sure to do some wine tasting while there, and ask about the “18 Hands”. Saluti Cellars is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am until 5 pm.
Burger Night: Every Wednesday night is Burger Night! In addition to our regular fabulous dinners, you can order any of our great Burgers on Wednesday Nights!
Thursday night special is Pasta Night
Steak & Lobster every Friday and Saturday Night.
