Well, August has arrived in a strange and uncomfortable way.  Just when we want to enjoy the last great days of summer, we are bombarded with heat, smoke and very poor air quality.  Please be careful in your outdoor activities, and lets just hope and pray that the fires get under control soon.

In the meantime, we have a few local activities that might make you feel a bit more social and have some enjoyable activities.

Saturday, August 11, Gold Vine Grill will once again be pairing up with Holly’s Hill Vineyard for “Ag in the Classroom”.  This event is held at the truly lovely Davies Ranch on Fort Jim Road.  Gold Vine has been a participant for a number of years to help raise monies to keep agriculture education in our schools.  The venue will be a welcome relief with a large grassy lawn and mature canopies of trees surrounding the meadow.  A lot of great food & wine local vendors are there to offer you great pairings.  The event starts at 5 PM.  For more information, contact the Davies Ranch.

August 18th:  E-16 1st Anniversary Celebration  Robert Jones is hosting this special event to  showcase his exceptional wines and tasting room in Fair Play on Saturday, Aug. 18th from 4:00 PM.  Entertainment will be provided by the super popular Bob Rawleigh.  Robert is the owner of the former Firefall Vinyard.  He still owns that local vineyard and has some fabulous wines from there, and also from Vineyards in Sonoma, Napa, Russian River and other California AVA’s.  He specthializes in exceptional Pinot Noirs, which we all know are hard to find around here, so check it our, give them a call, and enjoy getting to know one of the best new tasting rooms in Fair Play.

Sentivo Vineyards has been hosting Friday Happy Hour once a month at their beautiful vineyard on Fair Play Road.  I love these Happy Hours, which start around 5:30.  They bring the community together for a great social evening, with food and wine provided.  It is seasonal, so there will only be a few left, and you will have to check out their website.

Due to some unexpected medical changes, I have been out of the Restaurant for a couple of weeks.  I am getting much better, and should be home this week. Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes.  I can’t wait to be back with you all.  Unfortunately, I will not be able to put together a “12 @ 6” Dinner this month.  My schedule is a little too unpredictable.  Thank you so much to those who attended July’s dinner with Sierra Vista Winery.  I have a couple of great wineries in mind for September, so I’ll keep you posted!

Pray for rain (no lightning)!

As we move into mid-summer, and get ready to celebrate Independence Day, we are preparing to take a little getaway for a few days, and head to the Russian River area.  The area is a reasonable 2 1/2 hour drive from here, and has a plethora of activities to enjoy for a brief respite.  So, Gold Vine Grill will be closed July 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th.  We will re-open for business as usual with lunch and dinner on Friday, July 6th.  Meanwhile, we hope that you all have a fun and responsible holiday.

Thank all of you for your patience in the past few weeks, as we have implemented a new POS system to replace our old cash register system.  This system will help to expedite service, and also allows us to accept multiple payment card methods.  So, we are happy to tell you that we now take Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover cards.  We hope this makes you all happy!

Due to popular demand, and the many laments over the dropping of the Smoked Salmon Quesadilla from our Small Plates Menu, we have a new item on the menu.  Starting this week, we have added a Smoked Salmon Flatbread to the Small Plates menu.  This flatbread features smoked salmon, a light pesto spread, tomatoes, red onions, capers and feta.  It is really delicious!

Our “12 @ 6” Wine Paired dinner had to be re-scheduled in June, which we apologize for, but for all of you who were looking forward to being a part of the Sierra Vista dinner, we have firmly re-scheduled for Thursday, July 19th at 6 PM.   Chef Greg will be pairing  4 delicious courses to complement their exceptional wines.  Please call for reservations to (530) 626-4042.  Cost of the dinner is just $55.00 per person, to include all food, wine, tax and gratuity.

Wine Watch:  This is a great time of year to enjoy a light and crisp white wine.  This month, we are featuring the 2017 Oakstone Pinot Grigio.  This is a Fair Play Estate Lemley Vineyard wine with bright peach aromas & lush pear on the mid palate.  It has a slight grapefruit finish making it really perfect for a hot summer day.  It pairs well with Chef Greg’s Sesame Crusted Seared Ahi, the Organic Somerset Salad with Gorgonzola and Asian Pear or with just about any seafood.  Stop in and give it a try!

Gold Vine Grapevine Newsletter-June-2018

Is it summer yet?  Almost….just blink an eye and thing change almost daily!  So really, we’re just winding down the last days of a true Spring.  We’ve had heat, we’ve had rain….we’ve had rain, we’ve had heat… We’ve had thunder, we’ve had lightning…and around and around with a little wind thrown in here and there.  That’s kind of a relief from the usual rain, rain rain…3 days of ideallic Spring weather, then straight to triple digits!  This Spring has been beautiful!

Thanks to all who joined us at MV Vineyard to celebrate Chef Greg’s 61st birthday on Memorial Day.  He shares a birthday weekend with friends Brian Fitzpatrick, JoJo Boch & Dan Dannenfelser.  Anyway, we had a relaxing  time celebrating w/ friends, and really enjoyed the “surprise” arrival of my sister Denise from Paso Robles, and her friends Ken & Cindy from Woodland.  Ken entertained us all evening w/ great music from the 70’s on his guitar.

Sorry that this newsletter is a bit late, but I actually got away for a trip to Sedona AZ with a very dear friend, and just recently returned.  We had a wonderful time hiking, shopping and getting lost!  We ate at Elote’s, which was recommended  by many of our friends who have travelled to Sedona.

Our “12 @ 6” Wine Paired Dinner this month will be on Thursday, June 21st with Nathan from Sierra Vista Winery.  Chef Greg will prepare a meal with each course specifically paired with each of their lovely wines.  So, call soon for reservations at (530) 626-4042.  Cost of the meal is just $55.00, which includes all food, wine, tax and gratuity.

June Wine Watch:  Boeger Barbera  We are happy to be serving wines from Boeger Vineyard, and hope you will come in and try this lovely barbera.  It is full-bodied with soft fruit evident on the palate.  It pairs quite well with several dishes on our menu, especially the Pork Chop w/ the Apple Brandy demi, w/ Grilled Asian Pear.
