Yes it is definitely Spring!  Everyone is sneezing, blowing noses, eyes watering….ahh Spring.  But it is all worth it to see these Sierra Foothills in all of their glory this time of year.  The green hues of grasses and new leaves on the trees, the flowers popping up everywhere, blossoms on the trees, and grapes ripening…all happening simultaneously to put on a fabulous display of beauty.  Everything and everyone seem to get revitalized this time of year.

We here at the Gold Vine really enjoy the longer days, as it affords people who may not make the drive from parts beyond, plenty of daylight to wander out our way and enjoy an afternoon or evening in the Fair Play area.

Of utmost importance this month is the celebration of Mother’s Day.  As is our tradition, we will be offering a lovely Brunch menu as well as our regular lunch menu on that day.  You can review the brunch menu if you click on the “Events” tab on the home page of the website www.goldvinegrill.com.  Brunch/lunch will run from 11 AM until 3 PM.  We will also be open for dinner, with Chef Greg preparing a very delectible dinner special for the  moms.  Whether it is your bio-mom, your foster mom, your adopted mom, or anyone who fulfills that role for you, I think we can all agree, that these very special care givers deserve a very special day of appreciation, so we hope that you will bring them to the Gold Vine Grill.

We are happy to be partnering up with Tina & Randy Rossi from Saluti Cellars this month for our “12 @ 6”  Wine Paired Dinner.  This month, we will be changing the routing a bit, and having the dinner on Thursday, May 24th at 6 PM.  This is a 4-Course wine paired meal.  The cost of the meal is just $55.00 per person, which is inclusive of all food, wine, tax and gratuity.  Chef Greg really shines at these pairings, and they are very popular, so make your reservations soon!   Call us at (530) 626-4042.

Memorial Day Weekend is always a very busy time here in the area.  The kids are getting out of school, the graduations are going on all over the place, people are getting going on their summer plans, and lots of people visit the area for the 3-day weekend.  And Chef Greg’s Birthday follows just a few days later on the 29th of May.  We know it’s hard to get him out of the kitchen, but maybe, just maybe we can lure him out to get him a glass of wine & wish him a “Happy Birthday”.

Wine Watch:  Sentivo Petite Sirah.  Their 2012 vintage took Double Gold at the El Dorado County Fair.  We are now serving their 2013 vintage, which is just as impressive.  This is a rich, full-bodied wine, low on tannins and smooth on the palate from start to finish.  It is particularly enjoyable with a great steak featuring one of Chef Greg’s wonderful sauces.  It would also be nice with the  Salsiccia sauce that we serve with our Gnocci.
