As we move into mid-summer, and get ready to celebrate Independence Day, we are preparing to take a little getaway for a few days, and head to the Russian River area.  The area is a reasonable 2 1/2 hour drive from here, and has a plethora of activities to enjoy for a brief respite.  So, Gold Vine Grill will be closed July 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th.  We will re-open for business as usual with lunch and dinner on Friday, July 6th.  Meanwhile, we hope that you all have a fun and responsible holiday.

Thank all of you for your patience in the past few weeks, as we have implemented a new POS system to replace our old cash register system.  This system will help to expedite service, and also allows us to accept multiple payment card methods.  So, we are happy to tell you that we now take Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover cards.  We hope this makes you all happy!

Due to popular demand, and the many laments over the dropping of the Smoked Salmon Quesadilla from our Small Plates Menu, we have a new item on the menu.  Starting this week, we have added a Smoked Salmon Flatbread to the Small Plates menu.  This flatbread features smoked salmon, a light pesto spread, tomatoes, red onions, capers and feta.  It is really delicious!

Our “12 @ 6” Wine Paired dinner had to be re-scheduled in June, which we apologize for, but for all of you who were looking forward to being a part of the Sierra Vista dinner, we have firmly re-scheduled for Thursday, July 19th at 6 PM.   Chef Greg will be pairing  4 delicious courses to complement their exceptional wines.  Please call for reservations to (530) 626-4042.  Cost of the dinner is just $55.00 per person, to include all food, wine, tax and gratuity.

Wine Watch:  This is a great time of year to enjoy a light and crisp white wine.  This month, we are featuring the 2017 Oakstone Pinot Grigio.  This is a Fair Play Estate Lemley Vineyard wine with bright peach aromas & lush pear on the mid palate.  It has a slight grapefruit finish making it really perfect for a hot summer day.  It pairs well with Chef Greg’s Sesame Crusted Seared Ahi, the Organic Somerset Salad with Gorgonzola and Asian Pear or with just about any seafood.  Stop in and give it a try!

Gold Vine Grapevine Newsletter-June-2018

Is it summer yet?  Almost….just blink an eye and thing change almost daily!  So really, we’re just winding down the last days of a true Spring.  We’ve had heat, we’ve had rain….we’ve had rain, we’ve had heat… We’ve had thunder, we’ve had lightning…and around and around with a little wind thrown in here and there.  That’s kind of a relief from the usual rain, rain rain…3 days of ideallic Spring weather, then straight to triple digits!  This Spring has been beautiful!

Thanks to all who joined us at MV Vineyard to celebrate Chef Greg’s 61st birthday on Memorial Day.  He shares a birthday weekend with friends Brian Fitzpatrick, JoJo Boch & Dan Dannenfelser.  Anyway, we had a relaxing  time celebrating w/ friends, and really enjoyed the “surprise” arrival of my sister Denise from Paso Robles, and her friends Ken & Cindy from Woodland.  Ken entertained us all evening w/ great music from the 70’s on his guitar.

Sorry that this newsletter is a bit late, but I actually got away for a trip to Sedona AZ with a very dear friend, and just recently returned.  We had a wonderful time hiking, shopping and getting lost!  We ate at Elote’s, which was recommended  by many of our friends who have travelled to Sedona.

Our “12 @ 6” Wine Paired Dinner this month will be on Thursday, June 21st with Nathan from Sierra Vista Winery.  Chef Greg will prepare a meal with each course specifically paired with each of their lovely wines.  So, call soon for reservations at (530) 626-4042.  Cost of the meal is just $55.00, which includes all food, wine, tax and gratuity.

June Wine Watch:  Boeger Barbera  We are happy to be serving wines from Boeger Vineyard, and hope you will come in and try this lovely barbera.  It is full-bodied with soft fruit evident on the palate.  It pairs quite well with several dishes on our menu, especially the Pork Chop w/ the Apple Brandy demi, w/ Grilled Asian Pear.

Yes it is definitely Spring!  Everyone is sneezing, blowing noses, eyes watering….ahh Spring.  But it is all worth it to see these Sierra Foothills in all of their glory this time of year.  The green hues of grasses and new leaves on the trees, the flowers popping up everywhere, blossoms on the trees, and grapes ripening…all happening simultaneously to put on a fabulous display of beauty.  Everything and everyone seem to get revitalized this time of year.

We here at the Gold Vine really enjoy the longer days, as it affords people who may not make the drive from parts beyond, plenty of daylight to wander out our way and enjoy an afternoon or evening in the Fair Play area.

Of utmost importance this month is the celebration of Mother’s Day.  As is our tradition, we will be offering a lovely Brunch menu as well as our regular lunch menu on that day.  You can review the brunch menu if you click on the “Events” tab on the home page of the website www.goldvinegrill.com.  Brunch/lunch will run from 11 AM until 3 PM.  We will also be open for dinner, with Chef Greg preparing a very delectible dinner special for the  moms.  Whether it is your bio-mom, your foster mom, your adopted mom, or anyone who fulfills that role for you, I think we can all agree, that these very special care givers deserve a very special day of appreciation, so we hope that you will bring them to the Gold Vine Grill.

We are happy to be partnering up with Tina & Randy Rossi from Saluti Cellars this month for our “12 @ 6”  Wine Paired Dinner.  This month, we will be changing the routing a bit, and having the dinner on Thursday, May 24th at 6 PM.  This is a 4-Course wine paired meal.  The cost of the meal is just $55.00 per person, which is inclusive of all food, wine, tax and gratuity.  Chef Greg really shines at these pairings, and they are very popular, so make your reservations soon!   Call us at (530) 626-4042.

Memorial Day Weekend is always a very busy time here in the area.  The kids are getting out of school, the graduations are going on all over the place, people are getting going on their summer plans, and lots of people visit the area for the 3-day weekend.  And Chef Greg’s Birthday follows just a few days later on the 29th of May.  We know it’s hard to get him out of the kitchen, but maybe, just maybe we can lure him out to get him a glass of wine & wish him a “Happy Birthday”.

Wine Watch:  Sentivo Petite Sirah.  Their 2012 vintage took Double Gold at the El Dorado County Fair.  We are now serving their 2013 vintage, which is just as impressive.  This is a rich, full-bodied wine, low on tannins and smooth on the palate from start to finish.  It is particularly enjoyable with a great steak featuring one of Chef Greg’s wonderful sauces.  It would also be nice with the  Salsiccia sauce that we serve with our Gnocci.

Thursday night Pasta Specials are becoming quite popular.  Check out our Gold Vine Grill Facebook page, where I try to get info to you each week.

April came in on a perfect Easter Sunday, with a beautiful warm day for whatever your plans.  Whether attending the sunrise service, enjoying an Easter egg hunt, taking a drive, or coming to a lovely brunch at the Gold Vine, the day was absolutely perfect for anything!

We are very much looking forward to our “12 @ 6” Dinner this month on Wednesday, April 18th, with Les & Sharon of Element 79.  These folks are a bit new to the area, and have a lovely tasting room on Fair Play Rd., with really impressive wines.  The dinner is a 4-Course dinner, with Greg pairing his food with their wines.  The table is limited to 12 seats, so reservations are necessary.  Cost is $55.00 per person, inclusive of food, wine, tax and gratuity.

Passport Weekends 2018 will be on April 21st & 22nd and April 28th & 29th.  This is the big annual wine festival where guests will be celebrating with lots of great wine, food and music as they frolic in the foothills.  Just be responsible in your parting, and be careful on the roads, as there will be plenty of people who may not know their way around here.

What’s going on with Gold Vine Grill?  Are we sold?  Are we for sale?  Who knows?  WE know, and will tell you what is going on.  We listed the restaurant for sale, kind of on the “down low” several years ago, when I became ill.  We have always wanted to sell to someone who shared our vision of being the “Cheers” of Fair Play, of keeping our staff, who are like family to us, and who would continue to grow the business in a way that would benefit the community.  Since I relapsed last year, we have decided that I really do need to slow down.  I just turned 65 last December, and although I am thankfully in another full remission, we have decided to list it again locally.  We have had some very interested potential buyers, and we will be mindful of the well-being of our staff and community when the decision is made.  You can ask us for an update, and we’ll be happy to bring you up to date.  This is a very bittersweet venture, as the Gold Vine Grill is our baby, and has been our whole lives for 15 years now.  So, come to see us, enjoy Greg’s food, and share some memories.  We do love you all.

Wine Watch:  This month we want to feature Saluti Cellars “18 Hands” Bordeaux Blend.  The label on the bottle shows a white background w/ a shadow of a Clydesdale horse.  Randy & Tina Rossi, owners of Saluti Cellars are also owners of a horse named Norman, a Clydesdale who measures 18 hands.  You can probably go down to the barn or meadow to meet Norman on a trip to Saluti to taste some of their delightful wines.  Actually, there is a lot to see at their beautiful estate located on 250 acres at 7505 Grizzly Flat Rd.  They have an impressive property boasting a huge pond w/ fountain, bed & breakfast cabins that are top-notch, a wine cave, a pool and a very cool event area where there once was just a barn.  Just be sure to do some wine tasting while there, and ask about the “18 Hands”.  Saluti Cellars is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am until 5 pm.

March has arrived, and has come in like a lion!  Snow, hail, wind rain!  Wow!  I know that we really need the rain, so we are grateful for that, but I’m not really a big snow fan.  It’s beautiful to look at, but a bit of a challenge to get around in.  Really, it’s the freezing temperatures that I really don’t like.  But, we just spent plenty of time cozying up by the fire, and catching up on reading and chores.  I’m looking forward to the longer days ahead, and the promise of Spring!

Have you been in for Pasta Thursdays yet?  If not, you should give it a try.  We no longer serve Fish & Chips on Thursday nights, but have switched to Pasta Night.  Each Thursday, Chef Greg conjures up a different Pasta Entree.  Check it out!

For those of you who don’t know, Linda Neal, owner of Mellowood Vineyard is leaving the area soon to join the Peace Corps!  She is headed to Africa on a 2 year stint.  Her vineyard and winery are being auctioned off today, so there will likely be another new enterprise in the area soon.  Linda has been a great supporter of the Gold Vine Grill, and a wonderful member of our community.  She has an unbelievably positive demeanor, and has been a pleasure to know.  We will miss her very much, but at the same time, applaud her decision to take off in a new direction.  We will continue to serve her fabulous Syrah as long as we can.

For all of you sports fans out there, we will be showing the “March Madness” basketball tournament at the Gold Vine, so you can come on in for a great dinner and not miss a play!

Our popular “12 @ 6” Dinners will be returning this month on Wednesday, March 21st.  We are working on getting Borjon Winery for our first Wine Paired Dinner….but not confirmed yet.  I’ll shoot an email blast when the confirmation comes in.  These dinners are 4 courses, each paired with an appropriate wine.  The cost is just $55.00 per person, which includes all food, wine, tax and gratuity.  Reservations are required.

Here we are, on the cusp of February, settling into the New Year and looking forward to the longer days, perhaps a bit more rain, and the promise of Spring on the way!

February 4th is Superbowl Sunday.  While we would love to be here to serve you lunch or dinner on that day, we have discovered that it really isn’t practical for us.  So many people like to go so Superbowl Parties, even if they don’t watch football…they just like to get together for all of the hooplah!  So, we now close the restaurant on Superbowl Sunday, and join in the festivities with friends and neighbors.

February 14th is Valentine’s Day.  Our tradition since 2004 has been to put on a Winemaker Dinner with Elliott and Sherrie from Busby Cellars.  We enjoy this annual event, and are happy to offer a wonderful opportunity for you to be able to spend a great evening of fine food & wine, without having to drive very far.  We have a scant few seats left at the tables, and 6 seats left at the bar (late cancellation), so call this week if you would like to try  to join us.  The cost is $70.00 per person, which is inclusive of food, wine, tax and gratuity.  For more information, call Mary at (530) 626-4042.

February 18th is Presidents Day.  For many of you folks, this will give you a 3-day weekend.   We highly recommend that you make Gold Vine Grill a “Must Do” on your holiday weekend list.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Well, I have effectively failed at any resolution to be on time with my newsletter…so sorry!  It took me a few days to recover from the hooplah of the Holiday Season, and a few more days before I realized that I hadn’t updated my newsletter yet!  So, I guess all I can say is “Better late than never!”

There really isn’t a tremendous amount of events or activities in January to report on.  I would like to say that we had one heck of a great Holiday Open House in December.  It may have been one of my favorite so far!  We enjoyed the attendance of many, many friends and neighbors, as everyone enjoyed the complimentary wines from Cedarville Vineyards, Busby Cellars and Bechard Vineyards.  We put out a spread of great appetizers, and Tamra Godey volunteered her lovely vocal talents to the mix.  A very good time was had by all!  Thanks for helping us to enter into year 15 here at the Grill.  Pics from this event and New Year’s Eve are available at the “Events” link.

New Year’s Eve was also a wonderful time.  Our first seating guests were really party dogs!  They were having noise-maker wars between tables, and really were heavily into the spirit of the party!!  It was quite a celebration!  Our 2nd seating guests were noticably a bit more calm, which could be due to having to wait until 8:30 PM to have their meal.  But we enjoyed it all and hope all of the attendees did as well.  Chef Greg out did himself again with a fabulous menu to pair with all of the great wine.

Martin Luther King Day is Monday, January 15th.  While we are not open on Monday, we hope that many of you will take advantage of the Holiday weekend to get out and about, and make a point to get to the Gold Vine Grill!

Wine WatchElement 79

This is a brand new couple coming to Fair Play to open a tasting room.  Element 70 refers to Gold on the periodic table.  Husband & Wife, Les and Sharon Hanson are the proprietors, and will be opening very soon.  They are both from North Dakota, with serious roots in the farming industry.  Les’ professional background was in the Insurance industry, while Sharon has a background in the Hospitality industry, which makes her a natural for a tasting room environment.  Their winemaker is Scott Johnson, who also is winemaker for Perry Creek winery.  Look for their tasting room to open soon…they are located on Perry Creek Road, just past Toogood Winery.

Our friends at Red Poets Tasting Room are moving their tasting facility from just around our corner on Mount Aukum Rd. to Camino.  They will be opening in the site formerly occupied by Chateau duVal, near the Snowline Hospice on Carson Road.  They are building a facility here in Fair Play, where they have planted a vineyard off of Idyllwild Rd.  During the construction phase, you can enjoy their lovely wines at their Camino location.

Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching!  We have scant few seats left for our Winemaker Dinner with Busby Cellars.  This is a 4 Course Dinner that begins at 6 PM.  This is a single seating dinner, with the price set at $70.00 per person, which includes all food, wine, tax and gratuity.  Call Mary very soon if you would like to make reservations.

Gold Vine Grill’s Chef Greg has decided that we will be moving Fish & Chips to Fridays, and now have Pasta Night on Thursdays.  Be sure to ask what our Pasta Specials are on Thursday Nights!

That’s it for January!  Come and see us soon!

Ho Ho Ho!! Here we Go!  The countdown is on to December 25th.  In these fast-moving festive days, it is so easy to over-do, so try to take some time to relax every now and then to get together with family and friends…or just take a little time for yourself.  Come see us at the Gold Vine Grill, and give yourself a little break…You deserve it!

The Holiday Season can be pretty tough on our local businesses, as so many people shop downtown or in Folsom.  Please remember that we are here for your holiday parties (lunches or dinners), or we can cater a holiday party for you.  Or…you can just shop on-line while you are enjoying a great meal from the Gold Vine.   Better yet…why not gift your friends and family with a Gift Certificate from the Gold Vine Grill and/or a bottle of fabulous local wine?  Who wouldn’t love that?  And while Buck’s Bar is closed for a small stretch…just drive around Pleasant Valley Road…we’re worth it!

Our new menu is going over really well with all of you, and  we welcome your input and opinions.   Please realize that when we make a new menu, some things have to go.  Many people have expressed their lament over the absence of the Smoked Salmon Quesadilla from this menu.  We hear you, and rest assured, that item will likely reappear on our next menu.  There are also some items from the past menu that we can still prepare if you are really missing them.  Greg can still prepare Chicken Marsala or Chicken Picatta, as well as the Blackened or Grilled Salmon Filet with his great Roasted Red Pepper Sauce. It’s always challenging to add new items to the menu, because we know it “rocks the boat”.  On the other hand, it’s always good to have something fresh and new to try…right?

Sunday, December 3rd will be our 15th Annual Downtown Somerset Holiday Open House.  I had some confusion over which anniversary this actually was, so I just had to do the math.  We opened on November 29th, 2003, so we are now officially in our 15th year!  Please join us for our Open House as we celebrate 15 years in business with complimentary food, wine and music from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM.  This is always a fun and festive time, so try to take a little break from the hustle and bustle, and raise a glass with your family & friends.

Just 9 days later, I will be turning 65!!  What?? How did this happen?!  It doesn’t seem like that long ago that we were celebrating my 60th birthday at the Norgaard’s on 12/12/12.  Truthfully, I’m grateful to actually be here to celebrate this milestone.  It’s hard to believe that age is here, but the Medicare mailings are assuring me that it really is!

We are filling up quickly for our New Year’s Eve 5-Course Gala Wine Paired Dinners.  We feature 2 seatings, the first from 5-7:30 PM, and the 2nd from 8:30-???  Check out the “Events” link to see the menu.  We feature 5 courses of great gourmet food, each paired with great hand-selected wines. Dinners are $75.00 per person for the first seating, and $85.00 per person for the 2nd seating (2nd seating includes a sparkling toast at the end of the evening).  Prices include all food, wine, tax and gratuity.  This is an awesome way to have a lovely New Year’s Eve meal without the hassle of driving to Placerville or Sacramento.  It is always a sell-out, so call soon.  This event is reservation only.

Please remember at this time of fun and festivities, that many of us have friends or family that are struggling with challenges.  Sometimes the holidays are the hardest times for those who are dealing with troubling issues, and a kind thought or word always means so much.

The Holidays are upon us!  Even though it’s early November, time will certainly fly right into and through the Holiday Season, as it does each year.  As we watch the leaves turn color and fall from the trees, and as the winemakers wind up this year’s grape harvest, we have a little time to plan for the next couple of months.

At the Gold Vine Grill, we have 2 new things going on.  Many of you have tried our “Thirsty Thursdays”, when we offer 2 varietals of red wine and 2 varietals of white wine for just $5.00.  This is offered every Thursday.  Also, Sunday evenings, we now offer live original acoustic music from Tamra Godey from 5PM-7PM.  Sundays are also “Corkage Free” Nights, so that’s a double whammy great time!

The new menu has lots of fans eating some of Chef Greg’s latest creations.  If you haven’t been in yet to try the Chile Relleno del Mar (with Shrimp & Crab), served w/ Tomatillo Salsa, you’d better get on over pretty soon!  The Mahi Mahi Street Tacos are also a hit.  There are quite a few new items on this menu, and reviews have been very favorable.

While you are making plans for the holidays, remember that Gold Vine Grill is in the Catering business again.  So if you want to bring an office party in for lunch or dinner, we’ll be happy to acommodate you.  We will open for a lunch group for groups of 12 or more on the days that we are normally closed.  We will also be happy to cater a holiday dinner at your business or home.  Please call us well in advance, and let us help make your holiday party the best!

Gold Vine Grill is turning 14 years old this month.  Can you believe it?  It is hard to believe we have been here that long.  It has definitely been a long and winding road, and we are thrilled to be here as your neighbors and friends.  We opened on November 29th of 2003.  We’ve watched many of you raise your small children to become great young adults.  Be sure to come around this month and help us to keep on going to 15 years!

Since our 15th Annual Downtown Somerset Holiday Open House is so early in December, I think we should get the word out now!  We will open our doors to all of you on Sunday, Dec. 3rd from 2:00-4:30.  Local winemakers will offer their wines complimentary during that time, and we’ll have some great appetizers and desserts on a  buffet for your enjoyment.  With live music, and singing Holiday favorite songs, it is always a great time.  We definitely want to see you all there!

Also, it’s never too early to make reservations for our New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner.  We serve a 5-Course Wine Paired dinner…tables are formally set, and the evening is always great fun.  We have 2 seatings available:  5:00 and 8:30.  This is a pre set menu, with each course paired with a lovely wine.  Per person cost will include all food, wine, tax & gratuity.  We are already getting booked, so don’t wait until the last minute..,call soon for your reservation.  Wine bar seats also available.

Remember, during your holiday shopping adventures to “Keep it Local”.  Any of our Fair Play Wines would be a lovely gift, as well as a gift certificat to the Gold Vine Grill.  You don’t have to go far to give a great gift!

It’s Harvest Season in the Wine Country, and the Grapes are comin’ off the vine.  What will this vintage bring us??  We’ll have to remember a few years down the line when the reds are being released what a wet winter & hot summer we had this year, and how those weather extremes may affect the wine.

I just returned from 4 days in Cambria, where we usually have an annual get-together with my siblings.  September is almost always some of the best weather of the year on the Central Coast, and this year lived up to the expectations!  If you’ve never been there, and appreciate a lot of artisitic energy, gorgeous ocean views on a rugged coastline, great hiking trails, biking trails and/or just peaceful times by the sea, I highly recommend the Cambria area.  It is just 24 miles west of Paso Robles on the beautiful Hwy 1, just a few miles south of San Simeon.

We are literally days away from releasing our new Dinner Menu.  I’m waiting for Greg to get the last few food items in, and to get the new menu covers, and we will be offering our new delicioius dishes.  Of course, we don’t change the entire menu, as we know this might cause a local panic (especially where Calamari Dore and Ginger Shrimp Ravioli are concerned), but please do realize that when we put new items on the menu, some other items come off.  So, What’s New?  Well, for starters, we are joining w/ Olivier’s Butcher Shop to offer you some great meat selections.  We have tried a few of the new menu items out as specials, and they have been very well received.  We’ve had to tweak a couple of things to make them just right, so we feel pretty confident with our new items.  As far as small plates go, we will be offering Mahi Mahi Street Tacos, Chile Rellano Del Mar (with Crab & Shrimp), & Margherita Flatbread.

New Dinner items will include a 14 oz. Dri-aged grass-fed Rib-Eye Steak, served w/ Chef Greg’s house made steak sauce on the side. Remember 5 or 6 months ago when we prayed for the rain to stop?   That sort of seems like a distant memory now, and I think we would all be grateful for a little rain.  We are very happy to welcome the month of August, as July got a bit challenging in more ways than one!  Let’s see…about 3 weeks ago, our a/c system at the Grill suddenly stopped working, and we were going into a 104-105 degree weekend!  It took about 10 days to get it serviced, as many a/c techs are swamped.  So, finally we got it repaired, and 2 days later, it went out again, and what else?  Oh yeah, the well went out too, so we had no water!  Well, it’s all better now, and we have a break in the weather, so let’s hope for the best!

I want to express our sincere gratitude to all of our customers who stayed with us during the challenging days of no a/c.  You are wonderful people, and we really appreciate you…and a special thanks to Kelley & Jeff, Scot & Janet and Jim & Sandy who just came to us offering portable a/c’s and fans.   We made it through because of you.  That’s what this community is all about, isn’t it?

We are really looking forward to our “12 @ 6” dinner this month.  Normally we have them on the third  Wednesday of the month, but this month we have to change the timing to a bit later in the month.  We will be teaming up with John & Cindy Miller from MV Vineyards.  John has some of the best wines around, and some impressive award winners, so this dinner is sure to be one of the best!  This is a 4-Course wine paired meal.  The cost is $55.00 per person, inclusive of tax and gratuity.  Call for reservations soon, as this is sure to be a sell-out. 626-4042

Wine Watch:  We have been serving Pinot Noir from E-16 Wine Company for a few years now, and are thrilled that Robert Jones has now opened a new beautiful tasting room in Fair Play.  The tasting room is located on the property formerly occupied by the Winery by the Creek.  Robert has completely remodeled the interior,  and it is impressive.  It’s cool, it’s classy and it’s comfortable.  Get on over there & find out for yourselves!

Remember that we feature the original tunes of Tamra Godey on Sunday eventings at the Gold Vine from 5:30 – 7:30.  Tamra has a golden voice and plays the acoustic guitar beautifully.

There is a new pizza place in the area, located on the corner of Buck’s Bar & Pleasant Valley Road.  Greg & I went last Sunday, and enjoyed the outdoor patio dining w/ Tina & Randy from Saluti Cellars.  We chatted w/ the owner for a while at the end of the evening.  He’s put so much heart & soul into that Little Italian Place, and is working so hard to make it just right.  Many of you know that the next day, someone broke in and took some register equipment from there, and I’m not exactly sure of anything else, but it caused them to close only a little after a week of opening.  Hopefully, the chump that broke in will be caught, if he hasn’t already been.  But the reason I’m mentioning this is that I think it would be good if we all showed our support to this young family man who is just trying to make a living and add something enjoyable to our community.  So, maybe the next time you drive by..stop in and make a purchase, or meet some friends there, or take a meal home.  We all need to support each other out here.

Well, there isn’t too much more happening in August here, so just remember to come on by to see your old friends at the Gold Vine Grill, and let us take care of you.

Remember:

Wednesday Nights:  Burger Night

Thursday Nights:  Fish & Chips (except this Thursday, when we’ll have Fish Tacos!)

Happy Independence Day to All!  It looks like we’re going to have a pretty mellow day weather-wise, so get together with friends/family to celebrate the 4th of July.  Please remember to be safe! By the way,  Gold Vine Grill will be closed on the 4th.

It has been great having Mount Aukum Road open again, hasn’t it?  We are so happy to see some of our customers who had felt a bit “cut off” from Somerset by the road closure.  If you haven’t made it back yet…come on over!  We’ll make you a great meal that will definitely be worth the trip.

Wednesday, July 19th, we will be joining up with Sierra Vista Winery for our “12 @ 6” Wine Paired Dinner.  This dinner is a four course wine-paired meal.  Cost of the meal is just $55.00 per person.  Seating is limited to 12 people, and reservations are required, so make your reservations soon!

If you haven’t yet made it over to the Red Poets Tasting Patio for one of the “Friday Night Wine Downs”,  be sure to get on over and check it out!  Every Friday during the summer months, Gold Vine Grill is teaming up with Charlie & Renee, owners of Red Poets to offer a relaxing evening on their tasting patio, with food, wine and live music from 5 PM until 7:30 PM.  Charlie & Renee have reduced the prices of their outstanding wines appreciably for these events, so don’t miss the opportunity to get in on the fun!

Wine Watch:

We have recently begun to serve Sentivo Vineyard’s Sparkling Brut by the glass or by the bottle at the Gold Vine Grill.  Who doesn’t enjoy a little bubbly on a hot summer day?  This sparkling wine is made from premium Sonoma county grapes in the Methode Champenoise.  It offers hints of pear & citrus…perfect for sipping on any day.  And now you can get it at Gold Vine Grill…ahhh…the good life!

Music is back at Gold Vine Grill every Sunday evening from 5:30-7:30.  Tamra Godey is co-ordinating the artists, and we  think you’ll enjoy relaxing and listening to some great acoustic tunes while enjoying your dinner.  Remember, Sundays are also “corkage free”, so grab a bottle and make it to the Gold Vine on Sundays.

Have a great July everyone…get out & enjoy the summer, be safe, and always remember to get on over to see your friends at Gold Vine Grill.

Well, before we get into what’s going on in June, let me say “whew”!  Between Mother’s Day, Memorial Day Weekend, and Chef Greg’s 60th Birthday all happening in 2 weeks time, I have to say, it was all fun good and busy.  We had a fabulous month of business in May, which of course is just what we always want! As the saying goes “when you’re busy…you’re busy”  held true, and this week is a week to catch our breath and get ready for summer.

If you haven’t come to the Friday Night Wine Down by the Fire event at Red Poets Tasting Room Patio, you really need to get on over to share in the community gathering with great wines by Red Poets, great food from the Gold Vine, and great music by local musicians!  I’m telling you, this is a really good way to spend a Friday evening.  Charlie & Renee (owners of Red Poets) could tell from the first gathering that more seating and some umbrellas would be needed for the summer, and that is now done!  The event is from 5-7:30 on Friday evenings.  The address is 5951 Mount Aukum Rd. (just around the corner from the Grill).  For more information, call Charlie or Renee at (530) 405-3639, or call Mary at the Gold Vine Grill.

Starting June 4th, The Gold Vine Grill will be featuring live acoustic music from 5:30 – 7:30, with  the lovely sounds of Tamra Godey.  What a great way to spend a Sunday evening…and…Sunday’s are corkage free!  So bring a bottle of wine, have some great food, and relax and listen to some good music.

On Wednesday, June 21st, don’t miss this “12 @ 6” Dinner!  We’ll be joining with Frank & Tina from Narrow Gate Vineyards to bring you a 4-Course Wine Paired Meal. Dinner starts at 6:00, and seating is limited to 12 guests and the winemakers. Dinner is $55.00 per person, which includes all food, wine, tax & gratuity.   These dinners are always a hit, so make your reservations soon!  Call Mary at (530) 626-4042.

Sunday, June 18th is Father’s Day  You know that Chef Greg is going to prepare something really special for all of you, so get Dad away from the BBQ or off of the couch, and treat him to something he’ll truly enjoy…a meal at the Gold Vine Grill.

Our Wine Recommendation for this Month is the Sentivo Vineyards  Sparkling Brut which we are proud to be offering on our list by the glass or by the bottle!  Don’t you just really want a lovely glass of bubbly on a warm summer’s day or evening (or anytime)?  We are happy to be able to offer this at the Gold Vine Grill.  Cheers!
